About

Picture of Peter Legge CEO LeggeWorkThis place is all about healthcare and the people serving and served in American Healthcare and elsewhere around the world.

“I am passionate about healthcare having worked in the field for my entire career. I began my career in healthcare after a stint in Vietnam, with a belief that through hard work I could contribute to improving the lives of those receiving healthcare services through the organizations I worked with. My passion was deepened early in my career by the loss of my first child and near loss of my wife due to a medical error and the resulting family pain and disruption it left us with.

Although great work is done every day in medical facilities extending and improving the lives of those in need of care, American Healthcare today is twice as expensive as the rest of the developed world, has evolved to be beyond the reach of nearly 100 million Americans and of according to The World Health Organization of lower quality than much of the developed world.

The focus is on issues defining healthcare in America and providing understandable, reliable information for all involved in a healthcare system often portrayed as too complex to comprehend yet reparable through simplistic emotionally charged solutions with unintended  (or known and ignored) consequences. We must move past resignation and misguided proposals that create harsh societal consequences. Our goal is to work with you to mutually gain understanding and commitment to the implementation of solutions that will change American Healthcare. As the richest country in the history of the world we need to serve all with high quality (like the rest of the developed world) and get off the road to bankrupting our nation or leaving it to our kids to resolve. They will have enough to deal with.

My background includes national healthcare consulting in policy and system operations, business development including start-ups, state and federal policy planning and operations management. More importantly, I have walked the healthcare halls and talked with many patients and their families and the people I come in contact everyday. I have infrequently talked with someone for very long who does not have an experience to tell me about healthcare. Unfortunately the story is often about the dichotomy of the committed caregivers toiling in a busted system.

Currently my work is focused on blogging, researching, writing on healthcare systems as well as producing a documentary on the subject. Basic issues I confront include cost, access and quality compared throughout the developed world, strategies to overcome problems and what is exacerbating them. I will highlight those who are doing great things and those who have experienced healthcare that did not meet expectations and the tragedy that resulted.

I look forward to the conversation and sharing of ideas and information to further the process of reaching the goal of greatness in American Healthcare as has been the case in so many other American efforts.”
